We are proud to announce a new race to be held at this year’s running festival in memory of the legendary Hearts, Rangers and Scotland player Sandy Jardine.
As well as being a great footballer Sandy was also a very good sprinter who made a number of appearances on the circuit back in the seventies.
Sandy sadly passed away earlier this year and we thought it would be great with his wife Shona’s permission to hold a race as a tribute to Sandy.
And so it is with the help of some of Sandy’s friends who have very kindly sponsored the evente that we are pleased to announce the first running of the scratch 300m Sandy Jardine Memorial Race. Hibs, Hearts and Rangers have all been approached and it’s likely that all these clubs will be represented on the night along with a number of local football and rugby clubs.
Competitors will be running in their club colours and it will be fascinating to see how the two sports fare over the longer sprint distance. The winner will take away a first prize of £250 and the Sandy Jardine Memorial Trophy. Keep your eye on our website and our Facebook page for confirmation of the runners.
