About us

Welcome to the website for the City of Edinburgh Running Festival.

2014_1Our Chairman, Graeme Armstrong, wanted to bring high quality proffesional games running back to Edinburgh after many years absence. It seemed ludicrous that we had events all over Scotland, yet none in our historic capital city. Graeme approached a group of like-minded people to see if he could get a team together to organise an event - hence the concept that is now The City of Edinburgh Running Festival was born.

At this stage in 2013 we were nervously preparing for our very first City of Edinburgh Running Festival at Meggetland. Many questions were being asked. Would the runners support it? Would the venue be suitable? Would the meeting run to schedule? Would the racing we competitive? I am sure we asked many more questions, but on the night I believe the answers were in the main, overwhelmingly positive.

This year’s question was simple. How can we grow the event and make it bigger and better. There are always improvements to be made and hopefully we can build on what was achieved last year and add a little bit as the event evolves. Feedback from the runners has been invaluable. The second year of our festival has seen an increased entry in all ages as well as more spectators coming along to enjoy the fantastic racing so word is spreading and we will continue to try and reach a wider audience.

As we continue to try and innovate we introduced the first ever on-line entry system for an event on the Borders Games circuit and it was used by both established games athletes and new athletes alike. We also introduced two new races for 2014, the Sandy Jardine Memorial Race and the Ladies Invitation. As we move forward we will continue to continually improve and bring something new to the event.

We would encourage athletes of all ages to join in the fun and enter this unique event in the heart of our capital city. We would also like to invite the general public along to an event which provides genuine entertainment in a friendly and vibrant environment.

The 2017 Running Festival takes place on Friday 23rd June at Meggetland.
